The route changed and now the old trail is a blue blazed trail called the Mohawk Trail.
If one went back in time there was a lean-to and overnight accommodations for Appalachian Trail hikers. I recall it very well but don't know how many actually stopped here for the night !! It was peaceful as could be but I remember myself...TOO PEACEFUL. I also recall sounds of animals but nothing to be seen. There was also a trail up Coltsfoot Mountain in years past.
There seems to be some confusion as to the status of the Mohawk Trail and a conflict with the Dark Entry Forest Association owner of much of the area land. The association does not object to hikers but strongly protests and dislikes Dudleytown snoopers. In 2001 its an instant $77 fine just to be on their property and your vehicles get 'towed'. NICE ? -- Yet they have no objection to legit 'hikers'.You figure it.
When I get more information I will try to post it but a major problem in itself is the Dark Entry Forest Association. It's elusive and very private. It was started by the last resident of Dudleytown -Dr.Clark-. Contacts are virtually impossible. Their land composes maybe 800-900 acres BUT that is not all the land in this area !!!! Needed: tax maps
As to Dudleytown the 'association' does not help the rumors by its secrecy. None of these people actually live in old Dudleytown but in areas around the 'preserve'. They are very reclusive and if your ever in the area NEVER MENTION DUDLEYTOWN. To them it does not exist but just the mention will only bring silence or hatred towards you.
It's not that easy but follow the dotted line on the maps.
Such is now the Mohawk Trail and weaves east and then northerly and re-connects with the Appalachian Trail further north in Lime Rock area of Connecticut
